Research statement

Developed at the intersection of psychology and criminology, my research program focuses primarily on sexual violence and violent behaviors. Framed within a use-inspired basic research perspective, the overarching aim is to reduce interpersonal violence. The first axis deals with experimental and cross-sectional research to examine the role of knowledge structures as well as situational, cognitive, and emotional factors in the expression and regulation of such behaviors. The second axis deals with the development, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of psychological interventions. Specifically, interventional studies and evaluative research are developed to support evidence-based practices to prevent sexual violence and violent behaviors, in both the general and offending populations. Such psychological interventions include treatment program for sexual offenders, HRV biofeedback for gambling disorder, prevention of radicalization leading to violence, or evaluative research to prevent intimate partner violence in offending populations, and evaluative research to reduce gender-based stereotypes in school students.

Recent developments in my research program include:

  1. The development of psychological interventions to prevent suicidal behaviors in prisons (research proposal to be submitted) and to support cognitive remediation for victims of sexual violence (ongoing PhD).
  2.  The adoption of a population-based approach to prevent sexual violence.
  3. Research on violent and non-violent extremism in the face of climate change.

While quantitative methodology is favored, qualitative or mixed methods are also used for some research questions (e.g., to unravel male migrants’ experiences or to capture school students’ unique perspectives on sexual consent).

Thanks to an interdisciplinary academic background, much of the research is framed within a team science approach and involves collaborations with colleagues from various disciplines, including sociology, psychiatry, economics, law or political science.
