I studied Germanic languages at the KULAK (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven Campus Kortrijk) and the KULeuven and was appointed part-time assistant in English linguistics at the KULAK in 1986. I interrupted my 6-year contract in 1989 to follow an MA course in Modern English Language at University College, London. I received my Ph.D. from the Faculty of Arts at the KULeuven in 1993 and held a post-doctoral research mandate for two years (1993-1995). After working as a Maître de Conférences at the University of Lille 3 for a year, I was appointed Senior Lecturer of English at the KUBrussel (Catholic University of Brussels) in 1996. In 2001, I took up my current post as Professeur des Universités at the University of Lille 3. From 2001 till 2009, I worked in the Applied Languages Department (Langues Etrangères Appliquées, LEA). In 2004, I set up a Masters in computer-assisted translation and project management (Master en Traduction Spécialisée Multilingue: technologies et gestion de projets) and was course director until 2009. In 2009, the Master TSM was admitted to the network of the European Masters in Translation (EMT). Since 2009, I have mainly taught in the English Department (Faculté Langues Cultures Sociétés (LCS), département Angellier). I was a member of the comité SHS 3 of the Fund for Scientific Research FNRS (Wallonia-Brussels Federation) from 2013 till 2016. I was appointed Vice-Chancellor for research at the University of Lille SHS in June 2016 and held this position until January 2018, when the three Lille universities merged into University of Lille. I was deputy director of STL from January 2018 till February 2020.
