Catalysis, sustainable chemistry and international cooperation
I am a Professor at the University of Lille, conducting research in catalysis and sustainable chemistry at the Unité de Catalyse et Chimie du Solide (UCCS, CNRS UMR 8181). My work focuses on converting biomass resources into valuable chemicals and products, with particular interests in biorefineries, hybrid catalysis and high-throughput catalyst screening.
Since 2022, I have served as Vice-President of the University of Lille for knowledge transfer and science–society relations. I also coordinate PUI-Lille, the University Innovation Cluster of Lille. These responsibilities connect research, industrial partnerships, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and public engagement with science.
My career includes six years and four months of research in Japan, the coordination of European programmes, and service as Director of UCCS from 2016 to 2021. I coordinated EuroBioRef, a European project on integrated biorefineries, and PEARL, an international doctoral training programme. I also coordinated the development of REALCAT and subsequently served as its scientific lead. I currently lead the French contribution to the European DEMO doctoral network (2023–2027).
A former junior member of the Institut universitaire de France (2010–2015), I have been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) since 2014. My academic and industrial collaborations are particularly rooted in Europe and in cooperation between France and Japan.
Long-standing scientific cooperation with Japan
Building on my early research in Tsukuba and at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), I develop joint projects and researcher exchanges between France and Japan. I founded and directed the CAT&P4BIO international associated laboratory (2013–2017), involving Hokkaido University and the Institut Lavoisier de Versailles, and subsequently participated in NANOXCAT with Hiroshima and Kanagawa universities. These ties extend to collaborations with AIST and Mitsubishi Chemical, a visiting professorship at TUAT in 2025, and invited teaching at the University of Tokyo in May 2026.
Franck Dumeignil —
欧州の統合型バイオリファイナリープロジェクトEuroBioRef(2010~2014年)と博士人材育成プログラムPEARL(2019~2025年)を統括しました。
