My main research interests lie in environmental history, animal history and social history.

More specifically, my work focuses on the history of human-animal relationships and wildlife management policies from the early 19th century to the present. I completed a PhD on the history of European zoological gardens (Paris Ménagerie, London Zoo, Antwerp Zoo) at both the Free University of Brussels and the University of Lyon (2015). This research was published as a monograph: Histoire des zoos par les animaux. Impérialisme, contrôle, conservation (Champ Vallon, 2019). The material and ideational networks underpinning the history of zoos have shaped my current research programme, which explores the history of (post)colonial wildlife management policies in Central Africa. I approach this topic through a socio-environmental and more-than-human history of the management and taming of wildlife – particularly elephants – in both Congo and Uganda.

From 2015 to 2017, I was a Wiener-Anspach postdoctoral fellow at the African Studies Centre at the University of Oxford. I continued my research as a postdoctoral assistant at Ghent University (2017-2019), then as a research fellow of both the Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO) at Ghent University and the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) at the Free University of Brussels.

Since 2020, I have been a permanent research fellow at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), affiliated with the LARHRA (UMR 5190), then the IRHiS (UMR 8529). I am also a visiting professor at Ghent University.

Mes intérêts de recherche se situent à l’intersection de l’histoire animale, de l’histoire environnementale, et de l’histoire sociale.
Mes travaux portent plus particulièrement sur l’histoire des relations entre humains et animaux, ainsi que sur les politiques de gestion de la faune, du début du 19e siècle à nos jours. J’ai soutenu une thèse de doctorat consacrée à l’histoire des jardins zoologiques de Paris (ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes), Londres et Anvers du 19^e siècle à nos jours, réalisée conjointement à l’Université libre de Bruxelles et à l’Université de Lyon (2015), qui a été publiée sous forme de monographie (Histoire des zoos par les animaux. Impérialisme, contrôle, conservation, Champ Vallon, 2019).

Les réseaux matériels et idéels qui sous-tendent l’histoire des zoos ont nourri mes recherches actuelles, qui concernent les politiques (post)coloniales de gestion de la faune en Afrique centrale, abordées à travers une histoire socio-environnementale et animale de la gestion et de la domestication de la faune, en particulier des éléphants, au Congo et en Ouganda.

De 2015 à 2017, j’ai été boursière postdoctorale de la Fondation Wiener-Anspach à l’African Studies Centre de l’Université d’Oxford. J’ai ensuite poursuivi mes recherches en tant qu’assistante postdoctorale à Ghent University (2017-2019), puis en tant que chercheuse du Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique – Flandre (FWO) à Ghent University et du Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (FNRS) à l’Université libre de Bruxelles.

Depuis 2020, je suis chargée de recherche au Centre national de la recherche scientifique, affiliée au LARHRA (UMR 5190), puis à l’IRHiS (UMR 8529). Je suis également professeure invitée à Ghent University.
