High fidelity Simulation, High Performance Computing

International Master on "Turbulence" (Centrale Lille Institut)

International Master "Scientific Computing" (University of Lille)

The objective of the course is to give students an overview of the possibilities offered by direct numerical simulation (DNS) in several flow configurations. As DNS is generally associated with costly simulations and high-performance computing, an introduction to parallelization techniques and languages such as MPI and OpenMP is also provided. The second objective is to provide in-depth knowledge of large eddy simulation (LES) theory. The different families of sub-grid scale models (turbulent viscosity, scale similarity, etc.) are also presented and compared.
