Public dataset

DARDAR-Nice - A satellite dataset providing global distributions of the ice crystal number concentration retrieved from lidar-radar remote sensing. Vertical profiles are provided along the CloudSat / CALIPSO track for all collocated orbits between 2006 and 2019. See Sourdeval et al. (2018) for more details.

Download on ICARE/AERIS (doi:10.25326/09) or contact me for the latest versions.

MIBASE - A satellite dataset of cloud base heights and geometrical thickness derived from the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) on the Terra satellite. These are provided globally on a 0.25x0.25 degree grid for a three year period (2007-2009). See Böhm et al (2018) for more details

Download on the CRC1211DB (doi:10.5880/CRC1211DB.19).

CBASE - Satellite lidar observations are here used to estimate cloud base heights of lower-troposphere thin and thick liquid clouds (base below approximately 3 km). The dataset was thorougly evaluated against a ceilometer network. See Mülmenstädt et al (2019) for more details.

S3COM - A satellite simulator and retrieval sandbox tool for cloud studies.

At the interface of high-resolution modeling and satellite observations, S3COM aims to make cloud studies a little easier by i) simulating realistic satellite observations and retrievals from model outputs, ii) quantifying the sensitivity of radiative quantities to cloud parameters and iii) assisting the development of retrieval schemes using output fields from high-resolution models.

The project is accessible on GitHub. Funded by ANR (ANR-20-CE92-0008)
