Giulia Scalettaris is Assistant Professor in Political Science at the University of Lille, where she co-directs the Master in Humanitarian Affairs. She received a PhD in Anthropology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris) whit a thesis on the UNHCR’s intervention in the Afghan crisis. Since then, she has continued to work on the global refugee regime, based on ethnographic fieldwork within institutions and at institutional interfaces.
Before joining the University of Lille, she collaborated with the Tuft University (Boston), the European University Institute (Florence), and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Geneva). In 2018-2019 she was Visiting Fellow at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute, Geneva.
Professor Scalettaris' publications include Refugee Studies and the International Refugee Regime. A Reflection on a Desirable Separation (Refugee Survey Quarterly), Young Afghans at the Doorsteps of Europe: The Difficult Art of being a Successful Migrant (Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies), The Afghan Ministry of Refugees: an Unruly Trainee in State Capacity Building (Third World Quarterly).
Beside her academic experience, she worked with several international and non-governmental organizations in Kenya, France, Switzerland and most of all in Afghanistan.
