Description
Effrosyni Tsakou is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Classical Literature at the University of Lille. Her research interests focus on the understanding of the specific characteristics of Greek courtesans (hetairai) as they are described at the epistolary tradition (Alciphron, Philostratus, Aristaenetus) and the rhetorical intersections between their speech and the education system during the Imperial period, with emphasis on the interrelationships between literacy, anthropology, history, and Gender Studies. She recently received a Postgraduate Certificate in Gender Studies and Sexuality from Birkbeck, University of London. During this program, she studied modern theories about prostitution and female pornography.
